Turnstone Systems

Turnstone Systems designs, develops and markets loop management solutions that enable local exchange carriers to rapidly deploy and efficiently maintain Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) services. Turnstone’s products allow Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs) and Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs) to automate many operational tasks related to installation, qualification and maintenance of copper telephone lines. Streamlining these functions enables service providers to reduce labor costs and truck rolls, accelerate time-to-market, improve service reliability and scale their operations to meet the demands for wide-scale service deployment. The company is based in Santa Clara, California, and has additional offices throughout the world.

Products
Turnstone’s products enable the automation and remote control of installation, qualification and maintenance of copper telephone lines.

Turnstone’s flagship product, the Copper CrossConnect® CX100, has established a new category of central office equipment for remote management of the copper local loop infrastructure. The CX100 is a scalable platform that connects to copper pairs in a central office enabling service providers to perform remote loop qualification and testing, remote copper switching, and audible loop identification to assist with installation. These capabilities allow carriers to automate and remotely manage many functions including loop installation, loop testing and protection switching, reducing the need for on-site labor and truck rolls.

Turnstone’s Smart Splitter™ SX500 product line enables loop management solutions for residential DSL services, where DSL is deployed over existing phone lines. The SX500 is well suited for Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs) deploying consumer services or Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs) deploying line sharing. This unique solution integrates splitter functionality with metallic access for testing, enabling full remote testing capability at a lower overall cost.

CrossWorks™ Back Office Automation Software is a software suite that works in conjunction with the Copper CrossConnect CX100 and the Smart Splitter SX500 to allow service providers to readily automate physical layer management of the copper loop. CrossWorks provides key capabilities, such as loop qualification and testing, spectral analysis and network management through a variety of interfaces including web-based GUI, standard industry APIs, and interactive voice response (IVR). Based on open standards, such as CORBA and JAVA RMI, CrossWorks can operate as a standalone platform or readily be integrated into existing Operational Support Systems (OSSs).
