IRVINE, CA August 9, 2005 SMC(TM) Networks (www.smc.com) today announced that it is continuing to expand and strengthen its already broad portfolio of wireless networking products with emerging technologies and reliable features, alike. The company's solutions for robust networks include mesh networking, for easily-extensible WLANs; wireless access points for indoors or out; secure WLAN switches; and an array of wireless network adapters and accessories that can keep any network-capable device on-line.

An exciting new technology, SMC's new line of highly-advanced wireless LAN (WLAN) mesh networking products, built on Accton Technology Corporation's leading-edge 802.11s-compliant Wireless Intelligent Transport Network, WITnet(TM) architecture, will make extending wireless networks truly effortless. Available in Q4, 2005, SMC's new products for building and extending wireless mesh networks are ideal for deployment where large areas need to be covered and cable runs are impractical. Instead, each Mesh AP accessing the network acts also as a transmission/access point, making mesh networks highly scalable and flexible. Their flexibility is enhanced by the fact that redundancy and intelligent routing are built-in: if a Mesh AP or a mesh link is down, traffic is routed to another, and transmitted to its ultimate destination by the most efficient path.

The company's commitment to making networked campuses easy, flexible and secure is also evident in the company's existing Enterprise access point offerings, including the SMC2888W EliteConnect Universal 2.4GHz/5Ghz Outdoor Access Point/Bridge. Designed to bridge two or more wired LANs, usually located in different buildings, it brings added value by serving its second function as a wireless access point for in-building or mobile users. Incorporating dual-radio architecture, the SMC2888W-M provides its bridging over the network manager's choice of either the 802.11a or the 802.11b/g band. Teamed with one or more SMC2888W-S bridges tuned to receive on the same band, the network-to-network link is completed. Completely weatherproof and safe for outdoor use, its flexibility as a bridge and/or an outdoor access point makes connectivity easy.

Compatibility being paramount for easy set-up and expansion and reliable connection SMC's wireless solutions for the Enterprise comply with 802.11a and 802.11b/g standards to provide speedy, long-range connections for users, whether via 802.11a/b/g adapters, or for end-to-end applications. Furthering the evolution of our Enterprise access point products, features included will support Multiple SSID, QoS, VLAN tagging, Wireless Distribution System (WDS), and industry leading wireless security. Deployment is made simple on our entire line of enterprise access points and bridges with support for Power over Ethernet (PoE), optional high gain antennas, and a full range of products to extend wireless coverage in-building or cross campus.

Small-to-medium offices will benefit from solutions like SMC's WLAN PoE switch with support for wired and wireless connections. A new SMC WLAN switch, to be available in Q3 '05, will have industry-leading features for easy deployment, scalability, and centralized management; optimal for the Small-Medium size Business/Enterprise (SMB/e) environment. The wireless LAN switch is designed to allow easy user installation and operation, yet support advanced wireless switch features such as secure mobility, policy enforcement, QoS, and AAA and 802.1x offload capabilities.

SMC's focus on flexibility in wireless networking has resulted in a robust product line and solid roll-out plans for new technologies. The company remains committed to wireless, and its leadership serves as evidence.
