NETWORK RAIL CALLS UPON SIEMENS COMMUNICATIONS IN MAJOR NEW INITIATIVE Network Rail has selected Siemens Communications to deliver a touchscreen telephony system in its new integrated control centre (ICC) in Birmingham. The centre brings Network Rail and the train operating companies in the area, together under one roof, allowing closer working and speedier decision-making.
Siemens' HiPath 4000 touchscreen call management solution enhances decision making between the key representatives and enables Network Rail to improve train punctuality and optimise incident response times. The technology allows control centre staff to: prioritise calls, instantly dial key operational numbers with a single touch of a button and access call control functions such as transfer, enquiry and conference. It also offers call messaging and voice recording, to ensure that all calls are recorded for audit and training purposes.
The new solution ensures rail passengers experience minimum disruption by enabling ICC staff to quickly communicate and resolve any incidents. By allowing bespoke screen configuration at each desk, Siemens' solution adapts to operator's individual needs and provides them with a tailored solution, giving them control over their areas of responsibility.
"The introduction of integrated control centres is about improving the performance of the rail network and improving passenger safety," said Paul Moulds, Director of Marketing, Siemens Communications. "It is therefore essential that operators within these control centres have the necessary tools to effectively manage disruptive events and better anticipate or avoid foreseeable disruptions."
"The implementation of Siemens' technology delivers efficiency between Network Rail and the train companies operating within the Midlands control centre," continued Moulds. "This in turn directly benefits passengers using the railway by strengthening network performance through improved reliability and punctuality."
Siemens Communications specialist rail team will also provide Network Rail with comprehensive support for its HiPath 4000 touchscreen call management solution including first, second and third line maintenance.
