San Francisco, CA - October 26, 2005 -Global IP Sound (GIPS), the leading provider of embedded voice-processing solutions for the Voice over IP (VoIP) market, today announced that PMC-Sierra, a leading provider of devices for VoIP communications, has chosen to implement GIPS NetEQT in its Multi-Service Processor (MSP) VoIP Processor family in order to enable superior quality and reduced jitter buffer delay. PMC-Sierra is yet another example of a strong leader in the semiconductor market selecting GIPS to provide voice-processing capabilities.

"The IP Communications evolution is moving quickly, and GIPS is rapidly becoming the de facto industry standard. The tremendous success we have experienced with ISPs is now translating to the hardware market. Chipset vendors are taking keen interest in how voice is being perceived, what products and services can possibly surround voice, and who can deliver an optimal voice platform. It's a major reason why semiconductor leaders like PMC-Sierra, who we are very excited to work with, have sought our voice technology," said Gary P. Hermansen, President and CEO of Global IP Sound. "We will work closely with PMC-Sierra to bring unmatched voice quality to their customers' ATA's, broadband Routers and IP Phones."

PMC-Sierra's MSP VoIP Processors leverage GIPS NetEQ to enable ODMs and OEMs to rapidly bring to market high call-quality solutions that meet VoIP Service Providers stringent requirements for revenue generating services. All GIPS enabled PMC-Sierra solutions offer field-proven voice quality, superior packet-loss resistance, low latency and high-speed data performance.

"Our customers have come to expect that we will deliver the highest quality solutions for their VoIP-enabled routers, ATA, and residential gateway platforms," said Dino Bekis, vice president of marketing and applications for the Communications Product Group at PMC-Sierra. "GIPS technology is an excellent complement to our Multi-Service Processor family of VoIP devices because of their leadership in the field of speech processing software."

NetEQ, an advanced jitter buffer and packet loss concealment module, delivers dramatic improvements in sound quality, while minimizing buffering latency in hardware environments. This one-sided, embedded solution makes the delivery of unmatched voice over packet networks possible, even in the face of infrastructure deficiencies. NetEQ reduces delay by as much as 30 to 80 ms compared to the best alternative solutions, and provides better than PSTN voice quality at up to 30 percent packet loss. NetEQ is especially attractive to chip and hardware manufacturers because it uses an adaptive buffer size to respond dynamically to shifting network conditions for the highest resolution available today. It also gives hardware designers a great deal of flexibility, because it is a single-ended solution that can be deployed on the receiving end to improve end user voice quality.

GIPS offers this codec independent software in both a narrowband and wideband system implementation on a variety of platforms.
