HALF OF AMERICA’S BEST HOSPITALS USE AMCOM’S MISSION CRITICAL COMMUNICATIONS SOFTWAREEight out of 16 top hospitals use Amcom solutions to streamline call center operations and maximize operator productivity
MINNEAPOLIS – May 12, 2006 – Amcom Software, a provider of mission-critical communications solutions to improve call center efficiencies, announced today that half of the hospitals ranked in the annual “Best Hospitals Report” published by U.S. News & World Report use its software. Eight out of the top 16 “America’s Best Hospitals” have installed Smart Center, Smart Web, Smart Speech, Smart Console and/or Amcom’s e.Notify automated event notification system.
Amcom’s mission-critical solutions improve communications efficiencies by integrating and automating operator services within hospital call centers. By eliminating manual processes and inefficient call center processes, Amcom’s Oracle and Linux-based enterprise applications have proven to dramatically improve efficiencies, reduce operational costs and improve service ratings.
“The most highly respected hospitals in the world depend upon Amcom software,” said Jack Collins, CEO of Amcom Software. “These organizations have eliminated manual processes by automating call-center functions with Web-based applications, speech technologies and automated event notifications. Our software enables the consolidation of facilities, processes and personnel, proving to save hospitals millions of dollars in operating costs and efficiencies.”
Last year, US News & World Report studied the top medical centers in the country. Of the 176 medical centers selected for the annual America's Best Hospitals report, 16 earned honor roll status, a mark of particular distinction. To make the honor roll, a hospital had to demonstrate breadth of excellence by achieving a high ranking in no fewer than six specialties. The U.S News scoring system summarizes overall quality of in-patient care. Reputation and mortality each make up one third of the score. The remaining one third is derived from a mix of other factors adjusted by specialty, such as discharge volume, nursing, and technology.

The following top hospitals in the magazine’s lists use Amcom Software:
Cleveland Clinic, Barnes-Jewish, New York Presbyterian, Duke University Medical Center, University of California, San Francisco Medical Center, University of Michigan Medical Center, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and Stanford Hospitals and Clinics.
The Amcom system is built upon the Oracle and Linux-based Smart Center platform which easily integrates into enterprise applications and central directories and database files.
Amcom Software’s product suite includes the following applications:
Smart Console automates operator tasks and integrates caller and directory information, enabling operator service call centers to answer more calls in less time while reducing costs, staffing burdens, data-entry requirements and operator fatigue. Centralized communications processes help operators increase productivity and accuracy while maintaining courteous and professional call reception.
Smart Web applications enable employees and other authorized users to do directory searches, paging, and on-call scheduling from their corporate Intranet or the Internet. Compatible with all standard web browsers and accessible from PCs and wireless and handheld devices, the system offers users convenience and consistent access to up-to-date information.
Smart Speech enables organizations to process a majority of routine phone requests—including directory assistance, messaging, and paging—without a live operator and more easily than touchtone. The system prompts callers to articulate their requests. The system listens, finds the information in the database, and performs the appropriate transaction, providing pleasant and efficient 24x7 call-handling.
e.Notify is Amcom Software’s automated, HICS-compliant (Hospital Incident Command Center) notification system that streamlines emergency communications procedures for managing disasters and other emergency situations.
