Comtrend Corporation, a leading supplier of broadband, VoIP and data networking equipment, announced today that it is exhibiting two key products at NXTcomm08 that help make it simple for telecoms to deliver high-speed services using existing residential infrastructure with reduced costs: PowerGrid 902 UPA(Universal Powerline Assoc.) compliant Powerline Ethernet Adapter and the CT-5363 Wireless ADSL2+ Router, which can be used as either an ADSL2+ Router or high-powered home router for use with a Fiber to the home (FTTH) deployments.

Comtrend’s new products address the need among telcos to quickly move forward with next-generation services including IPTV and Home Networking. “Increasingly the question isn’t when the right infrastructure will be in place, but rather how to leverage the conduits that are available today,” said Andrew Morton, Comtrend’s General Manager. “The PowerGrid 902 help companies make the leap now—economically and with assured performance for the demanding applications they want to deploy. The PowerGrid Powerline Adaptors solve the home networking puzzle for service providers.”

Self-Install IPTV and Home Networking

The Comtrend PowerGrid 902 Powerline Ethernet Adapter is a telco-grade product that plugs into any wall outlet. It allows homeowners to extend a local area network using their existing home electrical grid, eliminating the need for extra wiring altogether and supports speeds up to 200Mbps inside the home.

The compact adaptor plugs in like a conventional outlet plug, it lets consumers self-install their home high-speed network, thereby dramatically reducing the time and cost associated with technician assisted installs. The PowerGrid 902 is can be deployed as a self install kit; simply plug a router into the outlet-mounted PowerGrid 902 and the entire house is instantly converted for broadband use—no configuration required by the telco. The user simply plugs the adaptors into electrical wall outlets and presses a button on the adaptor to synchronize the units. From there all the user has to do is plug in Ethernet cables and they have a high speed connection inside the home with Quality of Service fully capable of IPTV.

Every PowerGrid 902 contains advanced encryption algorithms to safeguard the data on being run in the home network. Adapters can be moved from one room to another as needed, instantly changing the plan of a user’s home network as needs require. The Powergrid 902 ships in pairs and single packs so extra units can be added to the home to take advantage of an advanced repeater function—no home is too large.

Included in the PowerGrid 902 is one RJ-45 Ethernet connection, as well as an extra power socket on top so no power outlets are sacrificed. An integrated filter prevents line interference and noise from degrading the signal.

DSL or Fiber—Same Residential Gateway

The Comtrend CT-5363 is a best in class ADSL2+ residential gateway with 5-Ethernet Ports and WiFi 802.11g. It can also be used as an Ethernet Router to successfully deploy broadband to a residence from a fiber connection. Telcos can now use the same residential gateway for all parts of their broadband deployments, saving on inventory and support costs while being able to support such services as IPTV.

The CT-5363 ADSL2+ Router offers advanced security and routing features such as QoS and VLANs. This TR-069 compliant residential gateway offers telcos a remotely manageable device that requires service providers to only support a single platform for either DSL or FTTH.
