Excella Enables Non-Profit to Do More for Less by Providing VoIP Services
In an economy where companies and organizations are having to accomplish more with down-sized staffs, one local nonprofit found an unlikely way to do just that: the telephone.

“Our new voice system has a much richer feature set than a traditional telephone system. We’ve got a modest staff of five people – and this expanded feature set empowers them to do even more,” said Alan Diskin, president of the Las Vegas office of Junior Achievement, a global nonprofit that provides business and financial literacy education to K-12 students.
The system – known as Hosted Digital Phone, uses VoIP technology, or Voice over Internet Protocol – was implemented by Las Vegas-based Excella Communications, a fully integrated telecommunications and network services provider.
“As a nonprofit, one of our primary goals is to save time and money in as many ways as we can,” Diskin said. “The Hosted Digital Phone system from Excella enables us to do that.”
Unlike traditional phone systems, Hosted Digital Phone does not require the purchase of expensive equipment to house on-site, since all the technology is located at Excella’s facility. Beyond the absence of costly capital outlay, organizations also benefit from user-friendly interfaces that drastically reduce training time for the new system, along with advanced features that allow users to upload personal contact lists from Outlook directly to the phone system, portability so that office calls can be received virtually anywhere, and Internet-based voice mail that can be checked from any computer in the world.
“What’s great about partnering with a client like Junior Achievement is that, in a way, you’re also partnering with the community,” said CEO Jack Pestaner. “We get to provide service to a great group of people, and they get to do the important work they’re doing with even greater efficiency. That’s a win-win.”
Another win, according to Diskin, is how Excella’s services were customized to the non-profit’s needs.
“They started with questions instead of a sales pitch,” he said. “‘What do you do? What are your communication bottlenecks? What problems can we solve?’ Those are the things they asked – and that’s how they tailored the system to exactly what we needed.”
For Excella, the relationship offers an added benefit.
“We’re a Las Vegas-based company,” said Pestaner. “Our roots are here, so it’s a real privilege to partner with an organization that does so much for our local young people.”
