A new telephone-based service gives unemployed workers in North Carolina a new way to file their initial claim for benefits.
Beginning today, people can file an initial claim for unemployment insurance benefits by calling (877) 841-9617. The toll-free number can be called anytime.
Before the introduction of the new system, customers could visit the nearest Employment Security Commission office or file claims online at http://www.ncesc.com. Both of those options are still available.
The voice-recognition phone system will work with customers in a conversational manner to establish a claim. Customers who call and cannot complete their claim can get assistance by being transferred to a consultant during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
