Hancock Regional Hospital Selects ASCOM (US) Inc. for Wireless Needs

Ascom (US) Inc., a leading provider of on-site wireless communication solutions, is pleased to announce that Hancock Regional Hospital, in Greenfield, IN has selected Ascom to provide campus wide wireless telephony services. Hancock chose Ascom’s FreeNET standards-based solution which consists of market-specific WLAN portable handsets, a robust messaging system and VoIP Gateway for integration with an existing circuit-switched PBX. FreeNET was chosen because of its’ power, flexibility and ease of use. It allows for quicker response which enables faster and improved patient care.

Several key physicians also requested and began using the i75 handsets. “The phones improved efficiency in communication between physicians and caregivers and among caregivers. Users liked the ease of use and the benefits they brought to their workflow”, stated Dr. Michael Fletcher.

The hospital installed the Ascom FreeNET VoWiFi system after a successful trial in which other competitive systems were eliminated. The success of the trial also resulted in an almost doubling of the deployment for the handsets. Hancock is currently using the i75 Medic handsets with clinical users and doctors. They are also currently utilizing some of the messaging capabilities sending messages to and from the handsets . Phase Two plans to incorporate even more messaging applications to the FreeNET system in order to receive more critical alerts and messages directly to the handsets. Hill-Rom, an Ascom gold partner, installed and provides support for the system.

Hancock Regional Hospital is a full service 102-bed hospital in Greenfield, Indiana and serves the Hancock County Region. They recently partnered with physicians and Visionary Enterprises, Inc. to open the Hancock Surgery Center, a multi-specialty outpatient surgical facility located on the hospital campus.
