Lasernet Reduces Content Delivery from Days to Minutes with Signiant
Signiant Inc., the leading developer of content distribution management solutions, today announced that LaserNet, a leading South African provider of multimedia services, has implemented Signiant’s Content Distribution Management software (CDM) to manage and distribute broadcast programs and feature films. The new system saves significant time and money, eliminates the need for physical tapes, and ensures that content is secure at all times.

Using Signiant, LaserNet has eliminated the distribution of physical media between its offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, London and the US and to and from its customers. Thus a program that previously took up to five days to be delivered by courier can now be transferred digitally in hours or even less, as Signiant is able to move 1 Gb of data in just two minutes. In addition, Signiant’s unmatched management functionality allows LaserNet to automate file transfers, freeing up employee time to work on other tasks.
“The ability to quickly and easily move digital media files into and out of South Africa with Signiant has made the country as a whole a more attractive location to shoot feature films,” said Ivan Bridgens, managing director at LaserNet. “We’ve used Signiant’s CDM software to transfer feature films like Blood Diamond and Free Willy 3 and have been extremely happy with its file acceleration and management features.”
Prior to implementing Signiant’s CDM software, LaserNet was using a file acceleration technology which lacked management and automation functionality. Once files had been transferred, employees would have to then access the server and retrieve the files they sought. This would take a significant amount of time and energy due to the large volume of files being transferred. However, with Signiant LaserNet can automatically manage file transfers, track progress and set up alerts when transfers are complete.
“As the leading multimedia services provider in South Africa, LaserNet’s core business relies on its ability to quickly, easily and securely move digital media assets between locations,” said Tony Lapolito, vice president of marketing and product management at Signiant. “Signiant allows LaserNet to better serve its customers by ensuring that its digital media assets arrive in the right place at the right time and in the correct formats.”
