LBiSat and Alianza Team to Provide High-Quality VoIP to Remote Regions
Alianza announced today that LBiSat Satellite Communications has implemented Alianza’s hosted voice platform to provide Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services in remote regions. With Alianza, LBiSat provides the high quality and low latency needed to communicate by satellite with remote sites and leverage a broader range of IP telephony and voice applications.

LBiSat has been a global provider of satellite-based telecommunications services to remote regions of the world for more than 25 years. Since latency is an issue for all satellite communications, LBiSat uses iDirect hub technology because of its superior ability to support IP in a satellite environment. With this leading technology in place, LBiSat wanted to expand its VoIP services to include Class 5 functionality.
“Many of our customers, such as the U.S. Forest Service, are involved in emergency and disaster recovery efforts in remote areas. They demand high-quality, low-latency VoIP services—which can be a challenge for satellite-based communications,” said Mike Lyman, director of project management at LBiSat. “Alianza was the only vendor offering high-quality voice and a complete host of features all bundled into one.”
Alianza’s award-winning platform is built on a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) design. It works with iDirect hub technology to shape packets travelling over the Internet so that latency is low and the quality of the voice call is consistently high. It also includes a carrier-grade session border controller, soft switch, carrier interface, virtual PBX, billing support system and device provisioning module.
“The three primary factors that contribute to the Quality of Experience (QoE) of a VoIP call are latency, packet loss and jitter. Alianza works with service providers to minimize these factors and allow the highest QoE for the end user,” said Brian Beutler, CEO of Alianza. “With the ability to implement high quality voice services, service providers can quickly commercialize and expand voice services without the upfront costs of building a proprietary voice solution.”
LBiSat’s implementation of Alianza’s hosted voice platform is detailed in a new case study. For a copy of the complete case study, visit http://www.alianza.com/casestudy.
