“The Ooma Telo is a watershed device, combining free U.S. local and long-distance calls over the Internet with advanced telephony features that enable unparalleled ease of use at exceptionally affordable prices,” said Marco Bello, director of marketing and product management for Mindspeed. “Mindspeed’s Comcerto 100 low-power processor has provided the technological underpinnings for this accomplishment, delivering carrier-grade voice quality, a superior Voice-over-IP (VoIP) feature set, advanced echo-cancellation techniques particularly valuable with digital enhanced cordless telecommunications (DECT) cordless phones and guaranteed voice quality of service in multi-play applications.”
“Mindspeed has enabled us to deliver the next generation of home-phone service, offering free, clear and reliable calling for consumers looking to eliminate their monthly legacy phone bill,” said Toby Farrand, vice president, hardware engineering and operations at Ooma. “The Comcerto 100 is a critical technology element for enabling the reliable voice quality and performance our customers require of all of our Ooma systems. As we continue to deploy new, innovative services and technologies to our growing customer base via the Ooma Telo, we are confident that the Comcerto 100 will provide the maximum processing power needed to meet the demands of today’s broadband homes.”
A key feature of the Ooma Telo is DECT 6.0 technology which, unlike previous 2.4 GHz cordless protocols, will deliver improved call quality, while making future Ooma Telo handsets virtually immune to household interference from wireless networks and other sources. Mindspeed’s Comcerto 100 processor further enhances Ooma’s Telo DECT 6.0 voice quality through the use of innovative advanced echo-cancellation techniques.
Mindspeed’s Comcerto family of broadband gateway processors gives the future digital home sophisticated, reliable services, including broadband multimedia content delivery and high-definition (HD) voice. Comcerto 100 enables Ooma Telo phones to support today’s VoIP narrowband codecs, while also providing a seamless transitional roadmap to emerging wideband codecs delivering superior voice quality.
Other key Comcerto features include baseline carrier-grade voice quality that has been steadily enhanced through the course of Mindspeed shipping more than 200 million voice ports to telephone carriers, worldwide. Additionally, the Comcerto 100 dual-core processor and programmable software architecture ensures a high degree of product flexibility and scalability. For instance, manufacturers can target several CPE market segments using the Comcerto 100 processor platform, from VoIP products to small- and medium-business (SMB) virtual private network (VPN) applications, to fiber-to-the-home (FTTH)-based triple-play residential routers, to 3G/4G routers and WiMAX integrated access devices (IADs).
