NextPoint™, a leader in fixed-mobile connectivity (FMC) solutions, announced today that it has named GlobalLogic, Inc., the leader in global product development services, to drive the software development effort for its newly launched Mobility Development Center. The award, which represents an expansion of the companies’ highly successful four-year joint development relationship, includes a five-year, multimillion dollar managed services agreement.

The GlobalLogic technology partnership and the establishment of the Mobility Development Center will enable NextPoint to more rapidly build and deliver next generation network interoperability solutions, including enhancement of the company’s mobility-enabling security gateway and session management platforms. These solutions are vital to mobile, fixed-line, and converged network operators as they seek to deploy new revenue-generating, mobile voice and multimedia services.

“Through the extensive field trials that NextPoint has conducted with Tier 1 carriers, we identified the need for a Mobility Development Center that could provide high-quality, robust, scalable products agilely. We believe the very best way to accomplish those objectives is to leverage the strengths of partners,” observed Woody Ritchey, CEO, NextPoint. “The key to our collaborative approach is finding partners that have an in-depth understanding of how our platform architecture and functionality must evolve to allow us to not just participate within the mobility ecosystem, but drive it for tomorrow’s always-available, anywhere, anytime enriched voice, video, and data mobile services. GlobalLogic has this understanding.”

NextPoint will provide the vision for solutions produced by the Mobility Development Center, defining product requirements and design, as well as overseeing all implementation. Delivery of these next generation interconnectivity platforms will benefit from the rigorous development discipline and quality assurance methodology that GlobalLogic applies to all phases of the software development process. To ensure expedited availability of FMC solutions, the Mobility Development Center will fully exercise GlobalLogic Velocity™, a proven methodology that supports highly dynamic changes in software product specifications and features.

As part of its contract with NextPoint, GlobalLogic will call upon its more than 2,700 software development professionals across global delivery centers located in the United States, India, China, and Ukraine – including more than 250 experienced mobile domain specialists. GlobalLogic’s mobility software development expertise – in addition to its quality assurance, testing credentials, and deep knowledge of the NextPoint session management platform – includes software development in full support of GSM/CDMA features, emerging 3G network architectures, and next generation technologies for 2.5G architectures.

“We have worked closely with NextPoint over the past four years as its IP session management capabilities were deployed to foster interconnectivity across a variety of networks,” said Peter Harrison, CEO, GlobalLogic. “Now, as NextPoint addresses the challenges of next generation network interoperability for both mobile and fixed-line operators, the requirement for agility and stringent discipline in software development becomes even more critical. We are very pleased to extend our relationship with NextPoint into its new Mobility Development Center, to accelerate growth for NextPoint’s FMC customers and partners.”

Within the Mobility Development Center, GlobalLogic will groom NextPoint’s award-winning session management platform for continued upward compatibility with NextPoint’s security gateway platform. GlobalLogic’s proven development methods and procedures for rapid product delivery with sustained high quality will be applied within the Center to enable the launch of NextPoint product enhancements and innovative FMC solutions.

“The mobility ecosystem has become more complex as subscribers’ quality-of-experience demands have increased,” said Brett Azuma, Senior Vice President, Ovum Telecoms Advisory. “A sharp focus and a world-class development organization are essential ingredients to meeting the needs of this market.”
