SecureLogix President Lee Sutterfield to Speak at 21st Annual FIRST Conference
SecureLogix Corporation announced today that President and Chairman of the Board Lee Sutterfield will discuss the critical need for voice network security and monitoring in incident response planning and will participate in a panel discussion of voice-over-IP (VoIP) security at the 21st Annual FIRST Conference. The conference, titled “Aftermath: Crafts and Lessons of Incident Recovery,” is being held June 28–July 3 at the Hotel Granvia in Kyoto, Japan.

Sutterfield’s presentation, entitled “Incident Response for Voice Services,” will be held on July 1, 2009 from 4:00–5:00 p.m., followed by a 30-minute VoIP panel discussion. In his presentation, Sutterfield will provide perspective on the set of vulnerabilities unique to voice services, offer a basic explanation of voice firewall technology for securing the voice network against unauthorized access, and introduce some of the fundamentals of voice incidence response as currently practiced in the commercial arena.
The legacy voice network has often been an underappreciated attack vector for the cyber security discipline. However, it has never fallen out of favor with the hacker community, because it provides a high success rate for gaining unauthorized and unmonitored access to enterprise data networks and communications infrastructure. The deployment of VoIP technology has only exacerbated the problem. Voice firewall technology solves these issues, enables significant cost savings on voice services, and supports a whole new and critical component of cyber incident response capabilities as have been practiced over the past 20 years on the data network. Any incident response program that does not directly address the voice services vulnerability set is running blind and the costs to security and operations for that lack of 360 degree network visibility and monitoring are increasing daily.

About Lee Sutterfield
Lee Sutterfield is president and chairman of the board of directors of SecureLogix Corporation and one of its founders. Prior to WheelGroup, Sutterfield was the senior program manager for the U.S. Air Force’s pioneering information protection program at the Air Force Information Warfare Center in San Antonio, TX. As head of the Air Force Information Warfare Center’s Countermeasure Engineering Team, he was responsible for the identification and analysis of computer and network vulnerabilities and the development of countermeasures. He also initiated the development of first-of-kind intrusion detection systems, automated vulnerability assessment products, network mapping tools, and threat analysis processes. He spearheaded the formation of the Air Force Computer Emergency Response Team and led the development of incident response processes that are still widely used throughout the computer security community today.
Prior to his time at the Air Force Information Warfare Center, Sutterfield initiated groundbreaking work within the Department of Defense’s intelligence community regarding the characterization of the threat to national information systems via worldwide interconnectivity.
