VeCommerce appoints new General Manager to drive adoption of speech recognition in EMEA

VeCommerce, a leading supplier of voice self-service and speaker verification solutions has appointed Brett Feldon as its General Manager, EMEA, to develop the company’s operations in the region. The company has seen a rapid increase in the demand for speech recognition solutions during 2007 and expects this to increase a further 30% in 2008.

Brett commented, “We have had great success in designing solutions for both the financial services and betting industries and more recently have developed speech recognition platforms for other applications such as flight information for Dublin Airport.  We also have plans to enter new markets that VeCommerce is already addressing internationally, including the public sector and utilities, and the continued development of our voice biometric security applications that help reduce fraud and identify theft.”

“A key part of our success as a company has been the continued focus on consulting closely with organisations to establish the best way that automated speech solutions can assist and in some cases transform a business, whether it’s saving time or improving customer service.  One of the major applications for speech now and in the future, will be in helping to direct calls to the right resource and or location.  With the rise of off-shoring and virtualisation, speech recognition can be used to intelligently steer calls to the right agent or customer service representative, first time.”

With a B.Sc. in computer science with first class honours, Brett started his career in 1992 designing, building, and implementing software for telecommunications billing. He entered the speech industry in March 1996 as software engineer for Voice Link and has been involved ever since with building speech recognition platforms. Brett assisted with the process of merging VoiceLink into Scitec (which later became VeCommerce) in 1998 and was rapidly promoted to the position of Chief Technology Officer in July 2004. He has provided assistance and/or oversight for some of the most complex speech applications in the world, including VeBet (TAB Limited, Tabcorp, Magna Entertainment, Youbet, Ladbrokes, Littlewoods BetDirect); the first deployment of SayAnything outside Nuance – and only the second deployment in the world (Suncorp Metway); and the first commercial deployment of speaker verification in Australia.

Brett is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and user group events worldwide and will be taking part in the Voice Biometrics Conference organised by Opus Research in London, 28th-29th November 2007. (http://www.voicebiocon.co.uk)
