VSNL Selects Ditech Networks’ Transcoding Solution To Interconnect Voice Calls Between Carriers

Ditech Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:DITC), a leading provider of voice quality solutions to the world’s communications industry, today announced that VSNL (NYSE: VSL), a leading communications solutions provider, has chosen Ditech’s transcoding solution to handle the rapidly growing number of codecs deployed by its carrier customers without compromising overall network performance or voice quality.

The transcoding solution leverages Ditech’s Packet Voice Processor (PVP) platform, offering VSNL a way to handle hundreds of calls per second and thousands of active sessions with little or no delay.

As owner and operator of one of the largest global submarine cable networks and as one of the world’s largest providers of wholesale international voice services, VSNL handles traffic terminations and origination services for many leading telecommunications carriers.  With many carriers utilizing different codecs, and with the rapid increase in the number of codecs used around the world, finding a means to quickly and cost-effectively translate a wide variety of codecs is essential.

“In today’s market where codec proliferation will only continue to rise, it is important that we support the codecs that are currently implemented by our customers,” said Michel Guyot, President, Global Voice Solutions, VSNL. “Ditech’s diverse codec library enables us to interconnect the highest number of voice calls possible, while maintaining the high network performance that our customers expect from us.”

Ditech’s PVP platform establishes a consistent codec interface between users and all core network elements. Ditech’s transcoding solution enables VSNL to reduce equipment costs, to improve interoperability, and to allow for network growth to occur efficiently and cost-effectively.

“Transcoding is vital for VSNL because it is necessary for them to quickly and effectively translate codecs that are deployed by their carrier customers,” said Todd Simpson, President and CEO of Ditech Networks.  “VSNL now has a cost-effective method of interconnecting a large volume of voice calls from around the world.”

Ditech’s Packet Voice Processor supports a comprehensive range of codecs, including G.711, G.721, G.722, G.722.1, G.722.2 (GSM-AMR WB), G.723.1, G.726, G.727, G.728, G.729/a/b/ab/e/g, Speex, iLBC, iSAC, GSM-AMR, GSM-HR, GSM-FR, GSM-EFR, EVRC, 4GV, AMBE, BV16/32.
