Zayo Bandwidth Extends Fiber Network, Increases Capacity in Memphis
Zayo Bandwidth, a regional provider of fiber-based network services, today announced that it is extending the reach of its fiber network in the Memphis and Shelby County areas of Tenn. to 24 new facilities, representing a 20 percent increase in the number of sites served. The additional network build-out will support customer applications in the following verticals: wireless communications, higher education, manufacturing and hospitality. The announcement comes just over two months after Zayo announced the closing of its acquisition of the network.
In addition to the new sites, Zayo has increased its core network capacity by 50 percent, greatly increasing the speed and ease that customers can add bandwidth services. Previously, there was little spare capacity to enable customers to turn up new services quickly. Zayo has also upgraded its Internet Protocol (IP) transit capacity to support the growing demand for Internet bandwidth in Memphis.
These augments reflect the first of several investments the company had previously stated it would make after acquiring the 200 fiber-route-mile network formerly known as Memphis Networx on Aug.1.
“We are committed to making the necessary investments to ensure a high level of service for our current and future customers,” said John Scarano, co-founder of Zayo Bandwidth. “Our goal is to be highly responsive to our customers’ needs making it easy for businesses and institutions to enjoy the use of large-capacity multi-protocol (TDM, IP and Ethernet) bandwidth services. Expenditures of this type increase competitive alternatives for growing business communications needs and support growth in the greater Memphis community at the same time.”
