Digicel Introduces The Coral Phone
Digicel, the fastest-growing telecommunications company in the Caribbean and new entrant to the Latin America market, today announced that it is introducing a new line of sleek mobile handsets accessible to all consumers. Exclusive to Digicel and simply called “Coral,” the handsets reinforce Digicel’s ongoing commitment to ensure mobile phones are affordable for all and will be introduced to almost all of Digicel’s 23 markets.
The Coral phones also support the company’s continued efforts to increase mobile penetration in key markets. To date, the Caribbean is experiencing record mobile penetration due to Digicel’s entrance in the region just six years ago. Digicel’s current investment in the region is valued at US $1.9 billion.
The Coral handsets - inspired by the tropical settings, music and vibrancy of the Caribbean - are among the least expensive on the market. The handsets also boast features such as icon-based menus with up to six - eight hours of talk time. Manufactured for Digicel by Vodafone in collaboration with ZTE, Coral handsets are available in three distinct models, which include:
- The Coral 100 - A black and white candy bar-inspired mobile handset, the Coral 100 offers Digicel customers great value and innovative services, such as text messaging and telephonic ringtones.
- The Coral 200 - Coral 200 sports a color screen, and easy text messaging capability, allowing users to easily communicate with friends, family and loved ones.
- The Coral 300 - Slender and stylish, the Coral 300 design is inspired by the clamshells. The phone features tri-band connectivity, GSM browser and cool mobile games.
“At Digicel we believe that a quality mobile service should be accessible to everyone,” said Brian Finn, Digicel Group Commercial Director, “and that affordable, high-tech handsets are what customers demand, which is why we have always been the innovator in bringing high quality, great value phones to the market. With the Coral range of handsets, we take this one stage further, introducing three new handsets at great prices, under the Coral brand, making mobile technology even more accessible.”
Digicel has driven mobile penetration in the Caribbean by not only making services more affordable but also raising the bar on acceptable levels of network coverage and quality, providing 90% population coverage in each of the markets it serves.
