Siemens Delivers Fixed Mobile Convenience for Small and Medium Enterprises with Debut of HiPath® Wi

Fixed-mobile convenience (FMC) - a Siemens Open Communications architecture hallmark - is now available for small and medium businesses (SMBs). Today, Siemens Communications, Inc. introduced the HiPath Wireless C20 Controller, developed, packaged and priced for the small and medium business market. The new features provide end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS), Virtual LAN and Virtual Network Services (VNS) capabilities as well as increased scalability and throughput. When combined with the HiPath MobileConnect appliance, SMBs can now enjoy the full benefits of FMC and Open Communications.

Siemens Open Communications based architecture enables smaller companies to easily deploy FMC along with mobile voice and data communication capabilities that previously may have exceeded their reach in cost and complexity. The C20 offers features that were previously only available on the HiPath Wireless C2400 Controller - a large-enterprise, high-volume appliance. The new controller seamlessly integrates with virtually any wired infrastructure, making it easy for SMBs to cost-effectively deploy wireless voice and data services across their organization and deliver increased productivity, efficiency and responsiveness.

Voice over WLAN, FMC and similar delay-sensitive, real-time multimedia applications are now a reality for SMBs as a result of the implementation of end-to-end QoS on the new C20.  By enabling end-to-end prioritized traffic handling from the Access Point (AP) all the way to the end destination, the end user will experience reduced delay and jitter and overall improved voice over WLAN quality.

The C20 also boasts an increase in throughput with its two Gigabit Ethernet ports, delivering SMBs all of the speed they need to support high-bandwidth wireless applications. Virtual LAN support at the controller is also provided, ensuring seamless integration with the wired network. In addition, Siemens’ VNS enables centralized segmentation of the WLAN by user, device or application, offering unsurpassed flexibility and optimal performance when deploying multiple solutions on a single WLAN infrastructure.

“The Virtual LAN/VNS features on the C20 helped us segment our network so we were able to run Voice over wireless LAN,” said Detlef Horn, Chief Information Officer, Härter Stanztechnik GmbH. “This has helped us to maximize our wireless LAN investment.”

Able to grow at the SMB’s own pace, the C20 is now a building block of a highly scalable WLAN infrastructure, allowing network managers to expand the network by simply adding additional controllers. Each controller supports up to 32 APs and 512 users. This highly scalable infrastructure helps the SMB avoid the need to purchase a higher capacity—and more costly—controller with every business growth spurt or added application.

“With the HiPath Wireless C20 Controller, SMBs can now much more easily and cost-effectively take advantage of integrating communications into their business processes for greater productivity, efficiency and responsiveness,” said Luc Roy, Vice President, Product Planning, Siemens Enterprise Communications, Inc. “It’s yet another example of how the Siemens Open Communications architecture and unified communications can help them make significant—and possibly dramatic—improvements in their business capabilities.”

Coupled with today’s launch of Siemens HiPath OpenOffice, which supports up to 10 APs and 20 to 150 users, the HiPath Wireless C20 Controller offers SMBS a full range of WLAN options. The HiPath Wireless C20 Controller is available now in more than 40 countries worldwide.
