SMC Ships First of New Family of High-Density Gigabit Clustering Managed Switches

SMC Networks (http://www.smc.com) today announced shipment of the first in its newest TigerSwitch(TM) family of high-performance switches: the TigerSwitch Standalone 26-port 10/100/1000 Managed Switch with 4 Combo ports (SMC8126L2).  Two other switches in the new family of managed Gigabit switches with built-in IP clustering will follow in November: the 50-port SMC8150L2 with 4 Combo ports, and the 24-port SMC8124PL2 with 2 Combo ports and Power over Ethernet (PoE).  All three of the new Gigabit switches utilize a state-of-the-art single chip architecture to ensure wire-speed delivery of data packets while maintaining security through the use of SSL, SSH, and other security measures required by today’s SMB networks.  These new switching solutions provide true flexibility in network configuration due to an IP clustering solution that facilitates grouping switches for efficiency and network extension with other SMC81-Series Gigabit Switches or SMC61-Series Fast Ethernet Switches. The 24-port SMC8124PL2 supports PoE for easier placement of network components and accessories like IP phones and cameras that require power. The new SMC8126L2 TigerSwitch 26-port 10/100/1000 Standalone Managed Switch with 4 Combo ports is available now, at an MSRP of $999.99.  Available in November, the 50-port SMC8150L2 with 4 Combo ports and the 24-port SMC8124PL2 with 2 Combo ports and Power over Ethernet (PoE) are priced at $1299.99 and $1199.99 MSRP, respectively.

SMC’s newest 81-series TigerSwitches are feature-rich edge switches, designed to provide a flexible, extensible management architecture for growing and changing networks-from the SMB to the Enterprise.  All three support clustering of as many as 32 switches, providing Application Filtering and per Port bandwidth management complimented by MAC-based Security for the most demanding SMB and emerging business environment.  With the current products on the market, that’s as many as 1664 available ports that can be managed as one system.  Flexibility is further enhanced by Combo ports: two on the SMC8124PL2 and four each on the SMC8150L2 and SMC8126L2 that accept 1000BASE-SX, -LX or -ZX mini GBIC transceivers.

“Security, management, performance-and, ultimately, flexibility-are key to the successful SMB network or Enterprise workgroup, and these switches deliver, to make growth and optimization of network resources easier,” said SMC Director of Product Marketing, Iain Kenney.  “The new SMC8126L2, SMC8124PL2 and SMC8150L2 build a high-performance network today, with the openness for growth and port expansion, Gigabit uplinks and easy PoE connection of accessories like phones and cameras, so they maintain their value and usefulness into the future.”
