NETRIX INTRODUCES MULTI-SERVICE ATM/FRAME RELAY/VOICE SWITCHING PLATFORM

Network Exchange 2510 Provides Regional Branch Support

2510.gif (32320 bytes)NETRIX Corporation  (NASD: NTRX) is introducing the Network Exchange 2510, the entry-level switch in the NETRIX Network Exchange 2500 family of high-performance, multi-service switching platforms. The 2510 combines ATM, Frame Relay, X.25, TDM, and ISDN for data, voice and image applications. Functioning as either a carrier edge or an enterprise backbone switch, the 2510 provides cost-effective bandwidth management of public, private, and hybrid networks, with extensive network management and diagnostic capabilities.

The Network Exchange 2510 extends the benefits of NETRIX's Network Exchange
2200 family of voice over packet gateways to small and regional sites by
adding higher capacity and higher speed connectivity.

The Network Exchange 2510 uses the same high-speed backplane as the larger
Network Exchange 2550. The Network Exchange 2510 provides support for ATM,
Frame Relay, X.25, TDM, and ISDN network services. Software selectable
transmission technologies allow the 2510 to provide superior cost-effective
leased line, public, or hybrid networking solutions for data, voice, and
image applications.

According to NETRIX Vice President of Marketing Tony Morris, "The Network
Exchange 2510 delivers the architectural benefits of the 2550 in a more
compact platform, and completes the 2500 family of products. The 2500
family provides a key building block of our voice/data integration strategy
in 1999. We believe that the market potential for enterprise and carrier
edge switches is approximately $1.5 billion in 1999, and that it is a
growing market."

Morris continued, "NETRIX offers a complete range of solutions for voice,
fax and data connectivity from the remote and branch office to data
concentration and access at regional and central sites. We will be building
on our Network Exchange 2500 platform to offer IP connectivity and voice
termination later in 1999."

Serving both narrowband and broadband applications, the Network Exchange
2510 is scalable from port speeds starting at 600 bps sync to 45 Mbps ATM.
Up to 450 ports can be supported by a single Network Exchange 2510. The
Network Exchange 2510's modular multiprocessor architecture allows
processing capacity to be added as needed for cost-effective network
expansion. For larger capacities, multiple 2510s may be linked to create a
supernode, or the Network Exchange 2550 can be used.

The Network Exchange 2510 maximizes bandwidth utilization by dynamically
sharing framed, packet, and circuit traffic. Bandwidth efficiency is
enhanced by combining data, compressed voice, and image traffic.
Sophisticated processing, priority, and fairness algorithms allow
delay-sensitive voice and SNA traffic to co-exist with other forms of data
transmission. Bandwidth-on-demand capabilities allow additional capacity to
be added automatically, via ISDN or other dial services, based on traffic
conditions or at predetermined times.

The Network Exchange 2510 incorporates NETRIX's comprehensive Network
Management System (NMS), including full featured monitoring, control and
configuration of the Network Exchange. The NMS also provides the industry's
most extensive remote diagnostics capability, including full interface
breakout, datascope and frame injector functions that minimize the need for
on-site visits to identify and correct network anomalies. An extensive
array of utilization statistics allows network planners to design for
average use and employ dial-up services for peak periods, thus minimizing
network costs.

The Network Exchange 2510 is available for immediate delivery.
