Is IP complicating convergent billing?
News abounds that many telecom service providers, instead of concentrating on bundling just circuit switched services, now want to develop systems that will combine the newest Internet Protocol (IP) offerings...
Presently, more than 80 percent of the large carriers in the United States can bill at least two services on the same invoice, but few carriers are able to converge IP and traditional switched services wihout a lot of difficulty.
But the need is prevalent. There are more than 3000 companies providng Internet access today, as per the Yankee Goup, Boston. Plus, the estimated 150 million Internet subscribers is expected to doule by 2003, according to International Data Corp
(IDC).
Though partnerhips between IP vendors and billing companies are on in full swing to provide a fully convergent bill we at Infozech would like to invite the end user, the receiver of the bill, as to his views on this.
Please feel free to post your views to the Infozech forum(http://www.infozech.com/forum.html).We also carry a number of articles on IP telephony in Telcomine - Infozech's newsletter on Telecom and Technology.Telcomine can be visited at http://www.infozech.com/telcomine.html
