We’re a small consulting company and we’ve been asked by a Spanish construction firm to put together a “televillage” concept for them. These folks are smart and don’t want to miss the technology train into the next millennium, but they want to do it in a field they know: residential construction.
The idea is a village or subdivision of wired residences with ample flexible workspaces and a business center in the middle with offices and shared services. The first phase would be 100 residences and 60 offices with state-of-the-art telecoms services.
If you’re still with me, my question is this: What is the state of the art these days in terms of voice and data for a project like this? I mean, without going into rocket science, what technological solutions should be included in a village with certain high-tech, high-performance telecommunications pretensions? When we first discussed this project 5-6 years ago the solution seemed to be basically ISDN, but times have changed. Then CTI (voice mail, screen pops) was all the rage. Now it seems to be telephony over IP. But we need more than fashionable applications. We need a solid integrated solution for a community of distance workers.
Would anybody like to make some suggestions? Right now we’re in the project stage and we’re wide open to ideas.
Cordial regards,
Mike Booth
